What is MMA?
Mixed Martial Arts is a combination of many fighting styles that are useful for fighting competitions with very few rules, typically held in a cage. Thai kickboxing, Brazilian jiu jitsu and wrestling are the main disciplines used.
What is BJJ?
Brazilian jiu jitsu focuses on controlling the opponent and applying chokes, joint locks and other submissions. BJJ can be trained for fitness, competition and self defence.
What fitness level do I need to train at the Academy?
We welcome all fitness levels. The best way to get fit is to start training with us.
Do I have to grade?
Only kids and Freestyle Martial Arts students have to grade. Our other systems have grading available but it is optional.
Do I have to spar in class?
No, while sparring is great for your fitness and technical development it is not compulsory.
I'm overweight, can I still train?
Yes, we have students of all body types at the Academy. Training with us combined with a good diet will help you to lose weight.
What age do I have to be to train at the Academy?
We allow students as young as 5 years old in our Kids Martial Arts classes. Students typically begin at 16 for our MMA, BJJ and Thai Kickboxing classes and we have members that are over 60 years old.
Which class is best for me?
Do you offer private or group classes?
We have many instructors who offer private lessons in Martial Arts and personal training. For group lessons please get in contact with us.
Will there be other beginners in my class?
There will almost always be other beginner students in your class however our more advanced students will always be willing to give you a hand.
How many classes per week should I attend?
Two classes a week is a good place to start. You can build on this as you progress if you wish.
